LakePoint Sporting Community and Town Center design is a work in progress; Terminus Wake Park scheduled to open in Late Summer 2013

Plans for the LakePoint Sporting Community and Town Center just south of Cartersville are evolving on an almost daily basis.
LakePoint partner Neal Freeman said Tuesday that the current plan calls for much of the youth sporting community and mixed-use retail and residential development near Emerson to open during the latter half of 2014.
The only attraction slated to open this year is the 21-acre Terminus Wake Park, a water park that is on schedule to open in August.
“The real fun begins in 2014,” Freeman said, adding that a Bass Pro Shops facility would be the south campus centerpiece.
Katie Mitchell, communications manager for Bass Pro Shops, said the massive Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World Outpost store would most likely open in the spring of 2015.
The Bass Pro Shops website indicates that the new store would initially employ close to 200 people. The store is being designed to give special emphasis to the outdoor heritage of the Northwest Georgia region. Photographs of the region will be displayed along with exhibits inside the store.
Perfect Game USA is moving eight of the original 16 youth baseball fields from the north campus to the south campus with the idea of opening them late next year. Four multi-purpose lacrosse/soccer fields also are being moved there to get some play underway in 2014.
A 100,000-square-foot indoor sports facility is also being targeted for completion in the fall of 2014.
“The indoor facility will be the hub of the wheel,” Freeman said. “That will also be the home of our international performance and training center — with the PowerAde Hydration Lab and testing for speed and agility, strength and conditioning — so it is important to have that building sooner rather than later.”
Freeman also said that getting the building ready for volleyball, gymnastics and cheerleading helps with the seasonality issue.
“No matter what the weather is, you’re still playing games (indoors),” Freeman said.
The LakePoint partner also said three hotels are under contract and expected to open on the south campus in 2014. Chick-fil-A and Wendy’s restaurants are also under contract.
The south campus also will feature a 300-acre natural area and the Treasure Mountain Family Fun Center — with a six-story ropes course, zip lines and miniature golf with a North Woods Bass Pro theme. Ropes Courses Inc. of Michigan will be a partner in that section of the LakePoint development.
The natural area also will feature mountain biking and hiking trails. A product demonstration area for Bass Pro Shops is being designed in conjunction with the International Mountain Biking Association.
Overlooking the natural area will be 400 apartment units being developed by Wilwat Properties, one of Freeman’s sister-companies. Freeman said he does not anticipate the housing community will be ready until sometime in 2015.
Emerson Mayor Al Pallone said Tuesday that groundbreaking for the road to the south campus is expected to take place later this week. The city of Emerson also will be providing water and sewer to the site.
Work on the north campus will involve moving more than 12.5 million cubic yards of dirt, which Freeman projects may cost close to $60 million.
The youth sports complex on the north campus is expected to open late in 2014.
The north campus will also feature a major sports retail village and quick-serve restaurants. Up closer to the Allatoona-Red Top Mountain Road entrance to the complex, visitors will encounter an entertainment district.
By the time the entire complex is built out, perhaps closer to 2020, developers are projecting LakePoint will create more than 20,000 jobs.
